The Government of Castilla-La Mancha awards Luis Cobos the region’s Gold Medal

This honor recognizes his extraordinary musical career and tireless work as an ambassador of Castilian-Manchegan culture around the world.

Albacete, May 31, 2025 – The President of AIE, Luis Cobos, was awarded today the Gold Medal of Castilla-La Mancha in recognition of his extraordinary musical career and his tireless work as an ambassador for Castilian-Manchegan culture around the world. The official ceremony took place at the Municipal Auditorium of Albacete under the slogan Pride in What’s Ours”.

In the words of the President of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, “It was a long-overdue honor to present the highest distinction of our region, the Gold Medal, to Luis Cobos—not only for his contribution to global culture, but for the pride he takes in representing Campo de Criptana and Castilla-La Mancha in all of his work.”

Santiago Lázaro, Mayor of Campo de Criptana, added, “Luis Cobos has embodied the pride of being Manchegan throughout his entire life, making this a well-deserved recognition.”

In total, 43 distinctions were awarded today to individuals and organizations who have made exemplary contributions to the progress, culture, inclusion, and well-being of Castilla-La Mancha. This event honors the region’s most outstanding members in fields such as the arts, sciences, sports, public service, and humanitarian work.

A lifetime of musical excellence

Born in Campo de Criptana (Ciudad Real), Luis Cobos is a musician, composer, and conductor, whose work spans orchestral compositions, film scores, music for theater and television, and more.

Throughout his distinguished career, he has conducted numerous prestigious orchestras across Spain, the UK, France, the United States, China, Japan, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Mexico, Argentina, and Colombia, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna Symphony, Moscow Symphony, Los Angeles Symphony, Beijing Symphony, European Symphony, London Symphony, Kansai Philharmonic, National Orchestra of Spain, United Nations Symphony, and the Ibero-American Youth Symphony, among many others.

As a musical director and producer, he has collaborated with renowned artists such as Plácido Domingo, Julio Iglesias, Pedro Vargas, José Carreras, Mecano, Antonio Banderas, Paco de Lucía, Ana Belén, Nino Bravo, Joaquín Sabina, and Antonio Flores, among many others.

He is also the President of the Society of Performing Artists AIE, President of the Ibero-Latin American Federation of Performing Artists (FILAIE), President Emeritus of the Latin Recording Academy, and President of the Latin Grammy Foundation.
